What does it mean to be your true self?

Sunlight through trees

As I move closer towards my true self, I feel more and more that it’s this which lies at the essence of my work through Trust and Bloom. My ‘why’ for what I do reflects this:

To help others to love, respect and connect to their true selves so that, together, we can create a more authentic, compassionate and kind world.

I’ve been sharing recently on my blog and over on my Instagram about getting to know myself, my true self. But what does that mean?

What does it mean to be your true self?

For me, it is ultimately about connection. One of my biggest core values. Connecting back to what’s true in your heart, coming to understand and respect yourself in a way that is for you, written by you.

  • It means understanding what makes you happy.

  • It means being able to connect with the core essence of who you are.

  • It means savouring emotions in the present moment, no judgement whether good or bad.

  • It means making choices informed by your own needs, rather than the expectations of others.

  • It means understanding your conditioned responses.

  • It means accepting yourself for who you are.

  • It means knowing, really knowing, you are enough.

  • It means offering yourself compassion and grace for your suffering, past and present.

  • It means understanding your thought patterns and how they’re holding you back.

  • It means knowing and sharing your own opinions, your own voice.

  • It means having deep respect for yourself so that you can stand up for yourself and your values when you need to.

  • It means understanding what drives you to be in the world.

  • It means a feeling of safety within the body.

  • It means holding yourself with love.

  • It means you connect with others, deeply, truthfully.

There is no end goal with meeting your true self. There is no final version of you. It’s not about doing it perfectly. It’s not about knowing every answer.

It is a journey of becoming more real. More connection, more joy, more love, more respect, more honest action, more understanding, more compassion.

The more we can connect with those things in ourselves, the more we can turn them towards others. Imagine the world we could create if we all commit to becoming our true selves.

I hope to meet you there, in that world, one of love, truth and compassion.

With love,

Suzi x
